CramMaster: ORACLE

Database software companies such as IBM and Microsoft may be challenging Oracle for market share but the #2 software company, led by combative CEO Larry Ellison, still lays claim to market share leadership. In a recent report cited by Oracle, 59 percent of CIOs surveyed by Morgan Stanley named Oracle as their primary enterprise database software. For database administrators (DBAs), developers and others, the widespread use of Oracle software isn't exactly breaking news. Their jobs, to a certain extent, depend on it. In fact, employers view Oracle certification as one of the most important ways to demonstrate expertise with databases of all kinds. Like other companies, Oracle promotes statistics to back up the importance of certification. According to the company, 97 percent of Oracle Certified Professionals (OCPs) say they have benefited from certification, while 89 percent say they gained confidence in their Oracle expertise as a result of certification. What's more, 96 percent would recommend the program to others. Employers benefit, too: Companies advocating certification report 49 percent less downtime.
